Elisabetta Benassi was born in Rome in 1966, where she lives and works.
In her work she critically observes the cultural, political and artistic legacy of modernity, as well as broader, often controversial political and cultural themes of our time. Using diverse media – installation, photography, video – she thus engages and questions the viewer while tracing troubled and contested timelines. From the background of her pieces emerges a questioning of contemporary identity and of the conditions of the present. Her work has been shown in major international group exhibitions and solo show including La Biennale di Venezia (2011, 2013, 2015), the Berlin Biennale (2001); XV Quadriennale Nazionale d’Arte of Rome (2008); Manifesta (2002).
