Fabiana De Barros, Une Nouvelle, 2002
Focusing on the multiple interactions between the artist and her audience, Brazilian artist Fabiana de Barros (born 1957, São Paulo) creates interventions and interactive performances to establish an individual relationship with the viewer in the public space. The artist began working with several media, while investigating mega-cities, the urban context, the relationships between individuals, and the power of social context. Breaking away from the tradition of painting and by creating contacts and nets of relationships, her artworks are the result of multiple dynamics. Using a variety of mediums, from traditional to less conventional and readily available materials, Fabiana de Barros works show how, over the course of nearly four decades, she moved from private thought to increasingly social and public concerns, leaving to her emblematic works to illustrate her thoughts.
