Arnaldo Caprai turns 50, the celebratory label is designed by Paolo Canevari

Arnaldo Caprai is 50 years old, and the celebratory label has been entrusted to the artist Paolo Canevari, who has proposed a minimalist design inspired by Benozzo Gozzoli of the 15th century. The convergence between the worlds of art and wine is increasingly intense and profound, and the Umbrian Arnaldo Caprai winery is not the least of these: for years the wine brand has been promoting its extraordinary wine through patronage and cultural initiatives.

The Roman artist Paolo Canevari was chosen by the winery precisely because of his aptitude for paying homage to the forms of ancient medieval paintings through gold leaf silhouettes. The commission to design the label for the Sagrantino dei Cinquant’anni took the form of a minimal shape that recalls a famous work by Benozzo Gozzoli kept in Terni: the Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria of 1466.
Among other things, Benozzo Gozzoli – who is very close to Montefalco – was one of the artists on whom Caprai’s patronage focused in the past. The gold leaf work, which will be featured on the special anniversary bottles designed to age for up to another 30 years, was also created in collaboration with the Florentine artisans of Giusto Manetti Battiloro, who have been doing this craft since 1600.
